At long last Floyd Mayweather has a dance partner for his date with the MGM Grand, Las Vegas on May 1st. "All of the deal points have been agreed to," Mayweather adviser Leonard Ellerbe said. "We still have to put pen to paper, but everything is agreed to.” Both camps looked to have agreed upon drug testing protocol, the issue that plagued the Pacquiao mega fight for what seemed like weeks.

Initially after the collapse of the Mayweather – Pacquiao mega fight both camps stood steadfast with regards to their proposed date of March 13th. This was the final slap in the face to all boxing fans, not only where we deprived the fight we all wanted; we witnessed both camps squabbling over a date. Ultimately the fan would be the biggest looser; yet again, having to dig deep into their pockets to pay for two PPV cards on the same night.

Mother Nature intervened, due to the disaster in Haiti Andre Berto pulled out of his scheduled fight, freeing up Shane Mosley. This was the fight many fans wanted, not all, but many believed Shane to be a tougher test for the undefeated Mayweather.

Shane Mosley is possibly the better opponent for Floyd, Let’s be honest if he fought and beat Pacquiao he most likely would not have been credited by the sub-division, his detractors would have claimed he was supposed to win, Pacquiao is a smaller guy.

There's the little detail of the catch-weight left to consider. The only fight Pacquiao has had in the welterweight division was against De la Hoya in December 2008. He did defeat Miguel Cotto, winning the WBO strap in doing so. However that contest was held at 145 pounds, which is not the official welterweight limit.

As far as the hardened fan is considered Money Mayweather needs to fight a legitimate welterweight before he can truly be considered in the upper echelon of that particular division. The last time Mayweather fought a legit welter was November 4, 2006. That's right; he fought Carlos Baldomir over three years ago. Since then, he has fought De la Hoya at light middleweight; then Hatton, who never was a legit welter; and then he fought lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez who knows what weight they ended up coming in at, but the fact remained the Mexican was competing in the super featherweight division the previous year.

Sugar Shane on the other hand defeated Antonio Margarito little over a year ago, took Miguel Cotto the distance in a competitive fight and has been competing in and above the welterweight division for over a decade. Should Pacquaio get past Clottey and Mayweather defeat Mosley, the mega fight could be looking even bigger, both will surely be regarded as the two best welterweights by everyone.
