After the initial shock wears off, the reality will set in. May 1st will mark “the beginning of the end“ for either Floyd Mayweather Jr or Shane Mosley. A fight that has been 10 years in the making comes at a point in each man’s career where a loss of this magnitude could signal that the end of their career is near. Let’s examiner this further.

The outcome of this fight will change the landscape of boxing. The loser will fall out of top contention and mainstream attention. They will no longer be seen as a legitimate “pound for pound” champion or contender. Although each fighter will share the same fate if they lose, they both will experience different levels of scrutiny for their loss.

Mosley
Sheldon Billings, Del Paso, CA “If Mosley loses he will be considered too old and should retire before he embarrasses himself further.” Shane Mosley does have an “emergency exit” excuse. His fans and critics can always claim that he was too old to fight Mayweather Jr. They can say that age has finally caught up to him. And, honestly, they are right.

Mosley is on the down side of his “boxing peak”. He’s sniffing 40 and despite being in great shape, he’s possibly too old to hang with the top fighters in his weight class. If he were to lose to Money Mayweather then fans and media would write him off and send him riding off into the sunset.

However, if he wins then he would be in line to fight Pacquiao and score his richest payday ever. Fans would want to see these two fight because Mosley’s value would be at an all-time.

Mayweather
Mark Davidson, Citrus Heights, CA “If Floyd loses then he would prove what a huge fraud he’s always been.” Amen to that Mark. If Floyd does lose then all his critics will come out and say “WE KNEW IT!!!” They would scream to the high heavens that Floyd is a fraud and that’s why he always ducked tougher opponents. This would crush Floyd’s chances at being the top guy. In fact, it would kill off all the excitement between him and Pacquiao. Floyd’s value would CRASH. Floyd’s undefeated record would be over and his “Money” nickname would no longer carry any weight.

However, if Floyd wins then the “Fight of the Century” will be back on and the fans can see the most anticipated fight since last millennium.

Either way you look at it, this fight marks the beginning of the end for one of these boxer’s careers.
