With Floyd Mayweather Jr supposedly signing the fight contract real soon, Boxing will roll out its 2 most popular fighters within 7 weeks from each other. Manny Pacquiao will fight Joshua Clottey on March 13th and Mayweather will face-off with Shane Mosley on May 1st. But the question remains, will these 2 fights make up for the failed “mega-fight” between Mayweather and Pacquiao?
“The Event”
On March 13th, Pacquiao and Clottey will wage war in the middle of Jerry Jones brand new home for the Dallas Cowboys with the world’s largest HD TV hanging above. Ticket sales have been great and a sellout has become a mere formality. The fight itself will be a battle as Clottey is a tough fighter who can take a pounding and is patient enough to find his opening.
However, Clottey’s going up against the top “pound for pound” boxer in the world. It’s going to take a whole lot more than patience and toughness for Clottey to win. Jimmy Franklin Sacramento, CA “Clottey’s going to need the entire country of Ghana to defeat Pacquiao.” Manny isn’t just fighting for a title or to become the year’s best boxer, he’s also fighting for a country and a chance to become the greatest boxer of all-time.
“A Decade of Ducking”
Depending on who you ask, each fighter says the other has ducked him for 10 years now. But, on May 1st there will be no more ducking. Mosley and Mayweather will settle their “bad blood” hopefully once and for all. Mosley will come into the fight with the intentions of knocking out Mayweather.
“The difference maker is going to be Floyd fighting a real fighter, a fighter he can't really get away from. I'm trying to knock him out, so hopefully he doesn't. If he can weather the storm, then that's good. I go for knockouts.” …. Shane Mosley, Boxingtalk.com
Mayweather will have to come into the boxing match prepared to outbox and not outrun Mosley. This will make for some exciting action. Mayweather will be forced to fight.
Conclusion
Larry Herron of Folsom, CA “We might have been cheated out of the ‘mega-fight’ but we are getting two great fights which makes up for the disappointment.” I agree that these 2 fights will make up for most of the disappointment caused by not getting “The Fight of the Century.” However, if both Mayweather and Pacquiao come out victorious in their upcoming fights then the demand will be unanimously overwhelming for them to fight each other. And if the fight doesn’t come to fruition then there will be a full scale riot.
