They say that good things come to those who wait.

Well if you're "Sugar" Shane Mosley, that saying certainly holds true today.

The 38-year-old Pomona, Calif. native has finally gotten his man, "Pretty Boy Floyd."

Emerging from the hidden galleys of Golden Boy Promotions on Friday, Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s adviser Leonard Ellerbe presented us with a main dish 10 years in the making.

Speaking to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Ellerbe let on that "all of the deal points have been agreed to, we still have to put pen to paper, but everything is agreed to. It's with the lawyers.

"Shane is a great fighter, one of the best of his era, and so is Floyd. It's going to be a great fight. It's a fight fans have wanted to see for a long time."

Make no doubt about it, Ellerbe is right. This is an entree that has boxing aficionados around the world licking their chops with anticipation. And if "Sugar" has anything to say about it, we can expect it to be real sweet...

Like a knockout punch right on the kisser.

Having a record of 46-5 with 39 KO's, and with the possible exception of Oscar de la Hoya in 2007, Mosley is by all accounts Mayweather's first legitimate foe with a real chance of winning since Jose Luis Castillo in 2002.

And with the speed, agility, and power that Mosley showcased against Antonio Margarito in his last fight, he damn well might just knock Mayweather out.

If he does pull off the Herculean feat, it will be the first crack in Mayweather's highly-polished and well-protected eggshell. That zero at the end of his 40-0 record will finally become a one.

Not to be forgotten amidst an announcement of "The Moxie of Mosley vs. The Mouth of Mayweather," as this fight should be called. The winner is also going to put themselves in prime position to cash in on the biggest payday in their respective careers.

A potential showdown with seven time world champion and pound-for-pound king, Manny Pacquiao.

Scheduled to fight Joshua Clottey on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Pacquiao has proven over the last two years that he is the cash cow of boxing. And if Mosley or Mayweather ever do step into the ring with the iconic Filipino, it will assuredly be the biggest fight in boxing's storied history.

So with two great fights already on the docket for 2010 and the potential for boxing's biggest fight waiting in the wings, is it not out of the question to ask:

Are the boxing gods finally starting to smile back upon us?

Well who's to say...honestly. But at least now there's one thing that we do know for sure.

We've finally gotten Mayweather out of that dress he's been wearing to pirouette like a schoolgirl around ABC's Dancing With the Stars stage and into the ring with a formidable opponent.

I'd say that's a pretty darn good thing in and of itself.
