Yes, you heard me. Floyd Mayweather’s fear of facing “Sugar” Shane Mosley on the 1st of May is legit. In fact, I believe Floyd Mayweather is scared to fight anyone who has remotely any capabality of hurting him, let alone in his division. I know what you are thinking. How can a professional prize fighter be afraid to go out there and do his job, which is to physically subdue his opponent using sanctioned violence? It is your job as a boxer to deliver the pain and punishment against the opposition and part of that job is to take your own dose of damage. So why is Floyd Mayweather scared you ask? Because he lacks experience in fighting the best out there.
Yes, he may have fought Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales and Zab Judah. But that was more than 4 years ago! Since then, he has fought a myriad of tune-up fights packaged as marquee matchups via clever marketing strategy and “hype”. In his fights over the past 4 years, he has gone largely untested. Mayweather likes to run his mouth saying how great he is but anyone with any sense can tell what’s really going on, his excessive braggery is a guise for his lack of self confidence. It’s why we have internships, because you just can’t do the job well until you’ve been met with some challenges and passed the tests.
Mayweather’s last 3 fights over the last 4 years:
1. VS Oscar Dela Hoya (Dela Hoya was over the hill when Mayweather fought him just as much as when Pacquiao fought him, he was also really really slow) RESULT: Not a legitimate challenge.
2. VS Ricky Hatton (Hatton being perfect for Mayweather’s style, the smaller man having to move up to a weight division he was not comfortable in) RESULT: Not a legitimate challenge.
3. VS Juan Manuel Marquez (An even smaller man than Hatton, forced to move up two weight divisions, Mayweather also took an extra 2 pound advantage by not following the catchweight) RESULT: Not a legitimate challenge.
We got tricked into buying these PPV’s thinking they were even matchups, when all we were really being sold was that “magic slimming belt that would guarantee you lose 30 lbs. in 3 weeks by not doing anything”.
What’s the point? Nothing really. I just want to say that I believe Mayweather’s fear is real. Hence the delay to sign the contract against Mosley and the demand for an immediate rematch clause. I can’t blame him, anyone would be scared to fight Shane Mosley right now.
He doubts himself just once against Mosley, and Sugar Shane will take him out. I still think Mayweather has the skills to beat Mosley easily because he is THAT gifted of a fighter to earn my respect, but I’m just saying.
Mayweather is scared.
